Dr. Ray Hofshi, PhD
Portfolio Manager
“I manage a quantitative value and growth driven portfolio. Twenty five attributes are used to rate each company. A stock is held until a sell signal is generated by the model. My portfolios are made up of roughly 14 positions and are therefore more focused than mutual funds.”
Dr. Ray Hofshi has been associated with Westport Resources since 1990. Through his use of his proprietary “General Mathematical Utility and Decision-Making Model,” he has defined an efficient decision-making process using incomplete statistical information.
Dr. Hofshi has used his Stock Selection Model for more than 30 years to manage personal and family stock portfolios, and over the last 20 years to manage money professionally. During the latter part of the 1970s, he developed a second model, which supplements the Stock Selection Model by providing timing guidelines on the portfolio management process. Dr. Hofshi's Stock Selection Model determines which stocks to select; his Timing Model determines when to buy and sell equities.
Prior to Westport Resources, Dr. Hofshi had a successful corporate career with Bell Labs, ITT and GTE.
Dr. Hofshi received a B.S. degree in Physics from the Polytechnic Institute of New York in 1963, an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University in 1964, and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970.
